Separating tool and workpiece surface proves to be very difficult in punching and blanking due to the creation of highly active virgin workpiece material that prevents lubricant access to the tool-workpiece interface. This causes workpiece material to adhere to the punch and form pickup; known as galling. The punching test replicates an industrial production no. 5 is a suitable choice to studying fundamental tribologically severe sheet-metal forming. The selection of test parameters similar to the industrial production process will further establish convincing experimental results for directly use in industry.
