The Department of Civil Engineering, Kuliyyah of Engineering, IIUM and the Cataclysmic Management and the Sustainable Development (CAMSDE) Research Group in particular are all greatly honoured to have Dr. Che Zulkhairi Abdullah as our esteemed guest speaker for our series of monthly research webinars in the month of March 2021. Dr. Che Zulkhairi is a renowned ARVR specialist currently working for Airbus in Broughton, United Kingdom and in this webinar, he will be talking to us on the topic of ‘Disaster Risk Reduction – Hazard Mapping’.

Some background on our honourable speaker follows. Dr. Che Zulkhairi gained his bachelor’s degree in Housing Building and Planning (Architecture), University Science Malaysia in 1993. He then obtained his Master in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS), from University Putra of Malaysia in 2005.  

In 2008, Dr Che Zulkhairi pursued his Ph.D in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom and completed the study in 2013 with a thesis on the development of a VPython 3D simulation and control software for a real time hybrid Hexapod robot. Upon his Ph.D completion, he continued his Post Doctoral research on Virtual Reality and Serious Gaming.

Dr. Che Zulkhairi has twelve years’ experience in teaching at Multimedia University, Cyberjaya, Malaysia, particularly in courses such as Virtual Reality, Game Design, Digital Media and Film Animation. His current interests include Integrating SysML MBSE in UNITY/ Python, developing Self-awareness mesh in Unity/Python for Digital Twin/Digital Shadow and Node-system for a Universal drag-and-drop editor for a Unity Quick-prototyping system.

With the knowledge and experience that Dr. Che Zulkhairi have so kindly agreed to share with us, it is hoped that this webinar will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange between industry experts and students, postgraduates, researchers and staff of IIUM, especially those that are working in this field. In addition, it also represents a good opportunity to share pertinent research findings and establish a strong network for future collaborations.
