uture Builders: Discover Civil Engineering
Outreach Program to Inspire Future Civil Engineers of IIUM
The Department of Civil Engineering, Kulliyyah of Engineering, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) successfully conducted an outreach program titled “Future Builders: Discover Civil Engineering” on 18th April 2025, from 9:00 am to 1.00 PM, at Centre of foundation studies (CFS), Gambang Campus, IIUM.
This initiative was specifically designed to attract more foundation students to join the Civil Engineering programme at the Kulliyyah of Engineering, IIUM. The session aimed to spark students’ interest by showcasing the critical and exciting roles civil engineers play in nation-building and global development.
The talk, delivered by a professional engineer & lecturers, introduced participants to key disciplines in civil engineering, including:
•Geotechnical Engineering – focusing on soil behaviour, foundation design, and slope stability.
•Transportation Engineering – covering highway design, traffic planning, and sustainable mobility.
•Structural & Water Engineering – emphasising infrastructure for cities, water resources, and climate resilience.
Students were also exposed to real-world project examples, such as the Maran River Bridge, slope stabilisation in landslide-prone areas, and civil infrastructure supporting the oil & gas industry, illustrating how civil engineers contribute to various sectors.
The interactive session included career insights, academic pathways, and motivational sharing from industry professionals and academic staff. It also served as a platform to strengthen the connection between CFS students and the Department of Civil engineering, Kulliyyah of Engineering.
This program reflects the department’s ongoing commitment to nurture the next generation of civil engineers and to promote the unique strengths of the Civil Engineering programme at IIUM.
