Located just outside Kuala Lumpur, our department is strategically positioned near Malaysia’s key industrial and technological hubs, providing students with strong exposure to real-world engineering applications and abundant career opportunities.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has a proud legacy as one of the founding pillars of the Kulliyyah of Engineering at IIUM. Since its establishment, the department has continuously evolved to address the rapid convergence of electrical, electronic, and computing technologies—fields that now define the digital era. Our Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering with Honours uniquely integrates electrical systems, embedded computing, communication technologies, and intelligent systems, preparing graduates to design and innovate across diverse sectors.

To ensure our graduates remain versatile and industry-ready, the programme offers four high-demand specialisations:

• Computer & Information Engineering

• Communication Engineering

• Micro Electronics Engineering

• Power System Engineering

Our academic strength lies in our people. All our lecturers hold PhDs, and many are registered Professional Engineers (Ir.) with extensive academic and industrial experience. Our department achieved a 6-star MyRA research rating in 2024, with several staff members individually earning the same recognition—reflecting our strong research culture and commitment to excellence.
