Introduction:

The dual degree programme (MSc of Electronics Engineering) is a programme jointly developed by International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with Chang Gung University (CGU), Taiwan. The main aim is to promote and strengthen bilateral collaboration between IIUM and its host institution particularly in the areas of teaching, research and joint supervision specially in semiconductors. The programme provides an opportunity for students to study abroad and simultaneously obtain a degree from IIUM and the host institution within similar discipline. Encouraging collaboration with renowned global higher institutions is a good strategy to cater to various aspirations of students thus seen as an excellent market approach. Malaysian government has also recognized the importance of the semiconductor industries and has taken several measures and recommendations to support its growth and development. These recommendations aim to foster innovation, increase competitiveness, and position Malaysia as a hub for semiconductor manufacturing and technology. This is in line with the government plans to further strengthen Malaysia’s semiconductor ecosystem in the hope of achieving a 15 per cent market share in the semiconductor assembly, test and packaging activities by 2030, compared with 13 per cent currently
