CV Writing Workshop: First Step to Success with Mr. Ashraff Rahman

On 14th March 2025 (Friday), Chemical Engineering Students’ Association (CHESTA) has successfully organized a talk session called “CV: First Step to Success”, via Microsoft Teams. The session commenced with a dua’ recitation by Br. Muhammad Akmal Irfan, followed by Sr. Nurul A’liah Balqis, who served as the emcee for the event. This event was specifically designed for students from the Kulliyyah of Engineering, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), aiming to equip them with essential skills for crafting an impressive and professional CV.

Welcoming speech by Dr. Munira Bt. Shahbuddin

The session was led by Mr. Ashraff Rahman , the CEO & Founder of Heroes Community, a seasoned humanitarian professional with extensive experience in crisis management, emergency response, and career guidance. He has worked with various international refugee agencies and humanitarian organizations, bringing over a decade of hands-on experience in war zones, disaster sites, and conflict areas. He possesses extensive experience in volunteering, conducting interviews, and providing career guidance. In addition to his humanitarian work, Mr. Ashraff Rahman is also an entrepreneur and a certified psychological first aid trainer, actively involved in mental health and psychosocial support initiatives. With his extensive background in recruitment and career coaching, Mr. Ashraff Rahman provided students with valuable insights and practical steps to enhance their CVs, ensuring they stand out in the competitive job market.

The session commenced with an introduction to the importance of a well-structured CV, emphasizing how it serves as a crucial tool for securing job opportunities, internships, and further studies. Mr. Ashraff Rahman, leveraging his expertise in recruitment and career mentoring, highlighted common mistakes students make when drafting their CVs and provided practical strategies to avoid them, such as tailoring resumes to specific job roles and emphasizing relevant experiences effectively. He also discussed the key components of an effective CV, including formatting, impactful wording, and the significance of tailoring CVs to specific job roles.

Behind-the-scenes committee in action

Through real-life examples and interactive discussions, students gained a deeper understanding of how recruiters assess CVs and what employers look for in potential candidates. Mr. Ashraff Rahman also shared tips on how to highlight academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and leadership experiences effectively.

The interactive nature of the session allowed students to ask questions and seek personalized advice on improving their CVs. Many participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn from an industry expert and acknowledged the session’s role in preparing them for future career opportunities.
The event concluded with a heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Ashraff Rahman for his time and dedication in sharing his knowledge. CHESTA extends its gratitude to all participants for their active engagement, making this session a truly enriching experience.
