IIUM had the chance to join the event, represented by its Chemical Engineering students (CHES). These students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, managed IIUM’s booth, which featured two simple, hands-on experiments: a volcano experiment and a lava lamp demonstration. Using everyday ingredients like vinegar and baking soda, the students showed how chemical reactions can be fun and easy to understand. The experiments highlighted concepts like acid-base reactions, endothermic and exothermic processes, making chemistry accessible to everyone.
The interactive booth attracted many visitors who were eager to try the experiments themselves. By offering a hands-on experience, IIUM’s team successfully engaged the public and showed how science can be both exciting and educational. This initiative reflected the university’s commitment to making STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) engaging and inspiring future generations.
Through this event, we aimed to spark curiosity and show that science is both fun and easy to approach just like our booth name “Fun Chemistry”. We hope to take part in more events like this in the future, embodying IIUM mission of being a ‘Garden of Knowledge’ and inspiring the community through sharing knowledge.
Looking ahead, we hopes to participate in more events like this, further embodying IIUM’s mission to serve as a ‘Garden of Knowledge’ by sharing knowledge and engaging with the community to inspire future innovators.
