The session was expertly led by Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Chong Chien Hwa from the University of Nottingham. Dr. Chong provided a comprehensive briefing on the EAC Standard 2024, emphasizing the importance of integrating new dimensions into course outlines. Participants were guided in designing delivery and assessment strategies that align with the standard, fostering a more outcomes-driven and student-centered approach.
One of the highlights of the workshop was an interactive session focused on enhancing assessment rubrics for Integrated Design Projects (IDP), Final Year Projects (FYP), and open-ended laboratory work. These critical assessments were refined to better evaluate creativity, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork—key attributes sought in graduates.
Additionally, the workshop introduced the concept of Programme Outcomes (PO) champions, with specific academic staff assigned to act as caretakers for designated POs. These champions will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the desired learning outcomes are consistently met and that the implementation of OBE principles is effectively monitored and improved across courses.
This workshop underscores the department’s commitment to staying ahead in engineering education, empowering its academic staff to deliver a robust and forward-thinking learning experience. By adopting the new EAC standards and cultivating excellence in teaching and assessment, the department is preparing its graduates to thrive in an increasingly complex and dynamic global landscape.
