Materials Lecture Competition (MLC) is a National event mainly organized by Institute of Materials Malaysia (IMM) and Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3 UK). This national-wide competition is an initiative intended to enhance awareness among young Material Scientists and Engineers in Malaysia on the importance of Materials Engineering and sustainability in the advancement of technology and humankind.<\/p>

MLC was first established in 2012 by IMM and subsequently in year 2013\/2014, this event was organized in collaboration with the Institute of Materials Minerals and Mining, Malaysian Chapter (IOM3-MC). However, beginning of year 2015, MLC was organised by IMM & IOM3-UK. \u00a0In year 2012-2013, Prof. Dr. Esah Hamzah from IMM was the chairperson for IMM-MLC and during that time IMM was hosted the MLC competition at national level. Starting year 2014, several universities in Malaysia has jointly organized the event as the host such as UiTM (2014), UKM (2015), UM (2016), APU (2017), UTM (2018), UTEM (2019) and 2020 (UPM).Readmore<\/p>

The MLC has now become nationwide whereby more than ten public and private universities in Malaysia participated in the competition at the national level since year 2012. Besides, MLC 2020 is the 9th time has been organized by IMM and hosted by UPM after the successful first to 8th editions, which were held in the year 2012 to 2019.<\/p>

The first winners at the National-level competition represented Malaysia in the Young Persons\u2019 World Lecture Competition (YPWLC) which was held in Hong Kong (2013), USA (2014), Ireland (2015), Brazil (2016), Australia(2017), South Africa(2018) where Malaysia Representative\/Finalist from University Malaya won the runner-up prize. In 2019, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) PhD student, Lam Jia Yong has won the second place in the 15th Young Persons\u2019 World Lecture Competition (YPWLC) for his lecture on \u201cDNA biosensor based on optical fibre for the detection of pathogen: A novel approach\u201d. On Thursday 12 November 2020, IOM3 hosted the 16th Young Persons\u2019 World Lecture Competition (YPWLC) for the first time online via Zoom.<\/p>

All public and private universities in Malaysia are invited to join the competition. They are asked to organize the competition at the university level to select the best candidate to represent their university in the Material Lecture Competition (Semi Final). Five finalists will be selected and compete in the Material Lecture Competition (finals). The first winner will represent Malaysia and compete at the Young Persons\u2019 World Lecture Competition (YPWLC) Organized by IOM3 UK.
