\n It is with great pleasure that the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace\n Engineering extends a warm welcome to Dr. Shafiq Bin Suhaimi<\/strong>,\n who joins our academic team. We are delighted to have him bring his energy,\n experience, and research passion to our community of staff and students.\n <\/p>\n\n \n

\n Areas of Expertise\n <\/h2>\n

\n Dr. Shafiq’s research sits at the intersection of aerodynamics<\/strong> and\n bio-inspired engineering design<\/strong>. His work spans a fascinating range\n of topics in mechanical and aerospace engineering:\n <\/p>\n\n \n

\n Aerodynamics<\/span>\n Bio-Inspired Design<\/span>\n Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs)<\/span>\n Flapping Wing Mechanisms<\/span>\n Internal Combustion<\/span>\n Electroplating<\/span>\n <\/div>\n\n

\n A significant thread of his research draws inspiration from nature \u2014 particularly\n the study of bat-inspired and cambered flapping wings<\/strong> for micro air\n vehicles. Through experimental and simulation-based approaches, his work explores how\n wing camber, skin flexibility, and leading-edge features influence lift, drag, and\n overall aerodynamic performance at low Reynolds numbers. He has also contributed to\n studies on internal combustion intake flow, electrostatic precipitators, and surface\n engineering for cobalt alloys.\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n \n
