It is an important element and component in to expose students to actual working environment in organization or industry. This exposure is expected to be able to enhance and reinforce their intellectual and skills capabilities, emotional, physical and social ability. The students will be exposed to job hunting experience in the early process of finding a placement and selection of industries, of course with the assistance of the coordinators. During the training, students will be fully attached with the company to experience the actual working environment. Specific projects are expected to be assigned based on the nature of the company and to be monitored and guided by the designated supervisor within the company. The students are expected to plan and record their activities using a proper logbook and later produce a report to showcase their journey and accomplishment throughout the training.

With this instrument in place, it is expected that every graduate shall have sufficient knowledge, skill, and attitude to embark into their respective professional life upon graduation. The students may also extend the work done during EIT to their Final Year Project (FYP) through co-supervision from the company. This will give great experience and added value to the students to solve actual industrial problem. In addition to that, the Kulliyyah also hopes to forge strong linkages with relevant industries that shall pave opportunities for collaborations between KOE and the industries as well as to look for industrially driven research.

Programme Structure

Placement: Students are placed in industries related to their field of study.

Duration: 10-12 weeks during the long semester break (Semester 3)

Supervision: Each student is monitored by an industrial supervisor

Assessment: Students must maintain a logbook, prepare an executive summary, and deliver a final presentation during lecturer visit

EIT aims to:

Expose students to actual engineering work environments.

Develop professional competencies and ethical responsibilities.

Enhance soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management.

Strengthen university-industry linkages and encourage future collaboration.

Key Benefits for Students:

Real-world exposure to engineering challenges and solutions.

Enhanced understanding of workplace ethics, safety, and sustainability.

Strengthened communication and collaboration skills.

Improved employability and career readiness.

The programme also benefits industry partners by:

Building a lasting relationship with IIUM’s pool of engineering excellence.

Providing access to skilled and enthusiastic pre-graduate talent.

Creating opportunities for collaborative research through final year project, innovation, and future employment.

Eligibility Criteria

To undergo EIT, students must:

Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0.

Have completed at least 90 credit hours

Fulfil any additional programme-specific requirements set by their respective departments.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the EIT programme, students are expected to:

LO1: Demonstrate professional and ethical responsibilities of an engineer through industrial exposure supervised by professionals with relevant engineering backgrounds.

PO8: (Ethics (ESSE) – Apply professional ethics with Islamic values and commit to responsibilities and norms of professional engineering code of practices)

LO2: Develop the ability to work independently and in teams in diverse professional environments.

PO9: (Individual and Team Work (S) –
