On 20th<\/sup> and 21st<\/sup>\nSeptember 2022, Advanced Materials and Surface Engineering Research Unit\n(AMSERU) exhibited  Green Materials Projects\nand conducted Circular Economy Workshop in conjunction with Global Clean up\nCongress (GCC) 2022 at IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC) and Kulliyyah of Engineering,\nIIUM. The GCC 2022 was organized by CRC CARE, in conjunction with the global CARE\nAlliance™, the Government of Malaysia\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s Ministry of Housing and Local\nGovernment, and the International Islamic University of Malaysia. With the theme\nof circular economy practice,  the\nexhibition and workshop aimed to educate and spread awareness to the visitor\nabout the impact of recycling waste materials to the environment. The 2 days\nevent were led by Dr. Nur Idayu Ayob and Dr. Norshahida Sarifuddin, with the\ninvolvement from AMSERU members, post-graduate students and our collaborator\nfrom Green Waste Selangor (GWS). AMSERU\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s booth and workshop also was sponsored\nby Minggu Sains Malaysia (MOSTI), PERINTIS and Jabatan Pendaftaran Pertubuhan\nMalaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the two days event, AMSERU\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s\nbooth was visited by congress participants as well as public participants.. It\nis an honor to all AMSERU members as our booth visited by YB Datuk Hajah\nZuraida Kamaruddin, the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities,\ntogether with Prof. Dr. Ravi Naidu, the Chairperson of GCC 2022 and CEO of CRC\nCare Australia. At the exhibition booth, various products derived from waste\nmaterials were exhibited like 3D printed products produced by Durian skin\n(Prof. Dr. Hazleen Anuar), soap from used cooking oil (Dr. Maisarah, GWS),\nsanitary pad from sago (Prof. Ir. Dr. Zuraida), plastic from organic waste (Dr.\nNorshahida), products from waste plywood (Dr. Nur Idayu), empty fuit bunch\n(EFB) (Dr. Noorasikin), rice husk ash (RHA) (Dr. Farah Diana), Biomass (Dr.\nAlya Naili) and hybrid rocket fuel (Dr. Norhuda Hidayah). These products are developed\nfrom the research works done by AMSERU members. The Circular Economy Workshop participated\nby students from different schools. On the day 1, the Circular Economy Workshop\nwas involved by 110 students from SMK Hulu Klang, Kolej Komuniti Ampang and\nMaahad Tahfiz (Kemahiran) Nur Fattah. AND, for the  day two, 120 school students from Summit 2\nPrivate School, Mutiara International Grammar School and IIUM International\nSchool have participated the the workshop. During the workshop, the students\nwere exposed with a talk related current condition of the earth due to the\nabundance of waste materials around the world and what is their role as future\nleader, including the importance of knowledge about materials to recycle. The\ntalk was given by Ts. Dr. Ahmad Zahirani Ahmad Azhar, the Head of Department of\nManufacturing and Materials Engineering. After the talk, the students were\ninvited to join demonstration in producing 3D products from durian skin waste\nled by Br. Romainor, fabrication of plastic from sago starch by Sr. Nur \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00cb\u0153Aishah\nand fabrication of soap from used cooking oil by Dr. Maisarah. The students\nwere excited and actively participated the workshop. The workshop was ended\nwith a photo session. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall AMSERU has received positive\nresponses from the students and teachers regarding the event. The students also\nwere able to deepen their knowledge and interest in Materials Engineering and\nwaste management. We do hope this event will be beneficial to the young\ngeneration especially the school students in saving the world. Together we\ncontribute to the sustainability of our environment and planet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
